Summer is over. Booo! But thankfully it means there are adventures to be had with fewer tourists and expenses now...
Books
I’m such an avid reader that I even used to do it for a job! These days, I’m content to simply read for my own pleasure but I’m lucky that I still receive advance copies of many books before they are released. I know, what a treat! Hence why I love sharing my book reviews when I discover something delightful.
So which literary genres do I most adore? Obviously, anything with an LGBT+ subject matter will pique my interest and you will find many queer books among these reviews. I’m especially keen on any books that explore or challenge the gender binary, probably because I’m attracted to people who do this too. Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl by Andrea Lawlor is one of my favourite examples of this genre.
I’m also keenly interested in any books about non-monogamy, whether they’re fiction or relationship guides, as I’m polyamorous. I also read quite a lot of erotic fiction and ran London’s Erotic Book Club for five years, so you will occasionally see book reviews for some saucy content on here as well.
I’ve also always had a soft spot for biographies and witty/perceptive memoirs. I read Lauren Bacall’s 1972 memoir By Myself when I was a teenager and was spellbound by her wry but warm perspective on her youth and loves. More recently, I was very moved by how clever and heartbreaking these two drag queen memoirs: Diary of a Drag Queen by Crystal Rasmussen and Unicorn: The Memoir of a Muslim Drag Queen by Amrou Al-Kadhi.
But this is really just the start, as there are so many amazing books out there and I want to consume them all. So, if you’d like to hear about my recommendations, sign-up for my book reviews by email or follow me on GoodReads. And if you ever have a book you’d like to recommend to me, please Tweet me as I’m always up for discovering new titles.
